Ashley LaPorteMy name is Ashley LaPorte and I am currently a 4th, 5th, and 6th grade science teacher at La Canada Preparatory School in La Canada, California. I have been working in education for 12 years. I began as a teacher's aide with LAUSD and eventually got my teaching credential. I have taught kindergarten through sixth grade. Working at La Canada Prep as a science teacher allows me to do what I love every day. I began incorporating projects into the science curriculum but it wasn't until I began my STEM Master's program at CSUN that I really understood what project-based learning is. This year I have designed the curriculum around a technology integrated PBL classroom where students are in charge of their own learning. This Master's program has been the driving force that has lead me to want to make changes not only at my school, but in the teaching community. I want to provide the resources teachers need to turn their traditional classrooms into active, student-centered classrooms.

My passions |
I have a true love for science. Anatomy has always fascinated me and drove me as a young child to want to be a pediatrician. My love for children and learning, however, was what brought me into the field of education. After being hired to teach solely science at La Canada Prep I was taken down a road that I could never turn back from. Teaching science is my calling. Teaching science through project-based learning is my passion.
